Spanish Jug

Spanish Jug
Wax On Watercolour Paper
18.3 x 14.2"
I'm enjoying using water soluble wax as an alternative to acrylic especially as it is more immediate ad slightly quicker to work with. This is especially useful when doing studies from life as I have to work while it is still light (although this is getting easier with the coming summer.
Unlike acrylic paint I don't have to mix my colours on the palette and can choose from what is already available. As with my colour mixing technique when using acrylic however I can layer the colours to achieve the desired colour and texture.

By The River

By The River
Acrylic On Canvas
18 x 15.4"
A picture of my father by a river. I rarely paint people and if I do its just for practice and to make sure I still can. I thought I might try to paint more people and perhaps put them into my scenes if it feels appropriate. One reason I don't paint more people is I don't have access to any models right now and buildings don't charge to pose for you.
So consider this a rarity for now. Hopefully though it helps to show you I'm a versatile artist that if given the opportunity can turn my technique to any subject.

Graphite On Paper
16.5 x 11.75"
I'm hoping to enter the Derwent art prize again this year and so have started drawing more and trying new ideas out. My previous drawings last year were too abstract and since I have moved towards more figurative work in my paintings it makes sense to do so with my drawings.
Right now I am definitely thinking of entering this one and the feather drawing as they are the best ones so far and share a common theme.

Pigeon Roost

Pigeon Roost
Acrylic On Canvas
31 x 39"
I thought I would have a go at a diptych. Originally this was going to be two separate pieces but I decided to paint them together and create a single piece. I have some folded card laying around at home and I might try something with several panels if I can think of anything good to put on them.

Eternal Union

Eternal Union
Acrylic On Canvas Paper
8.5 x 17"
With The Scottish independence referendum this year I thought I would make something political to go along with it. I guess this sums up my opinion.

Satsuma's

Satsuma's
Wax On Watercolour Paper
9.3 x 14.4"
I am attempting more still life pictures recently and have a few more I'm working on now. I enjoy working in such an intimate manner with the objects and can really work on the details up close. This is different from my architecture paintings where it's very much about the big picture. Its also great training from a technical point of view which is always a bonus.
