Conisbrough Castle Again

Tearing At The Roots
Graphite On Paper
16.5 x 11.75"
Japan
Graphite And Acrylic On Paper
16.5 x 11.75"
I know I paint the castle a lot but I do have easy access to it and it is such a great building. Below is my abstract representation of Japan. I love Japan and hope to go there some day. That drawing really does show you what can be achieved with left over art materials.

Working Bigger

Find a Place And Never Leave
Acrylic On Canvas
12 x 16"

Kingdom (What Will Remain)
Acrylic On Canvas
14 x 18"
I have never really worked to any standard sizes before but recently I have come around to the idea of working bigger. I want more work to have more presence and impact, more freedom and space. It was after completing these two works that I decided to no longer work at such a small size. Of course this means more work but the results should speak for themselves.

Drawing And Painting Together At Last

Angry Water

More Luck Than Hard Work
Graphite On Paper
16.5 x 11.75"
For a few years now I have been trying to find a way of making my drawings recognisable next to my paintings in a unified style. This has proven to be quite a challenge as dry and wet mediums have very different properties and I have often felt the freedom of painting is lost with drawing. Of course this was before I discovered water-soluble graphite. This has freed my drawings up and I am now able to place marks down with the same freedom as I would have with a brush. This hybrid approach suits me fine as I can work in a both painterly and direct manner on the paper. So more drawings to come soon.

Views Of Conisbrough

Resolve
Acrylic On Canvas
22 x 16"

Schism
Acrylic On Canvas
30 x 20"
Here are two paintings I did of quite unique buildings in my home town of Conisbrough. Resolve is of Conisbrough Castle and Schism is of a chapel. I will leave it up to you to interpret the paintings. There are certainly quite a lot of interesting buildings in Conisbrough and I hope to paint them all. In fact I am about to begin work on the St Peters church soon which should prove a challenge and keep me busy for a while.

Still Life

Laura
Acrylic On Canvas Board
20 x 16"

Painting Of A Rhinoceros Sculpture
Acrylic On Paper
11.7 x 9.4"
I tried my hand at a still life recently. Not much chance for abstraction here but that wasn't the point. I just wanted to see how well I handled smaller subject matter. With landscapes its often about the bigger picture but here the details are important.

Buildings And Landscapes

Out Of Here
Acrylic On Canvas
18 x 14"
Still Life
Acrylic On Canvas Paper
20 x 16"
I do love painting buildings in landscapes. I think it must be something to do with nature and man meeting at that point. So here are a couple of them for your viewing pleasure.
